Where our listings come from
We prefer, in this order: official city, county, or federal government pages; official library, parks department, or nonprofit pages; authorized APIs or data feeds; and partner feeds. Every listing links to the organizer's own official page — we never present ourselves as the organizer.
What we don't do
We do not scrape Meetup or Eventbrite listings. We do not copy full event descriptions, photos, or logos from third parties without permission. We do not invent event details, prices, schedules, age eligibility, or accessibility information, and we do not imply a relationship with an organizer that doesn't exist.
Original summaries, always sourced
Every listing uses an original, plain-language summary of what the organization broadly offers, based on their own public page. Every listing preserves the organizer's name, a link to the official source, the type of source, and the date we last checked it.
Verified local coverage vs. national resources
We currently have real, verified local listings for a small number of metro areas. Outside those areas, Explore search still works nationwide, but results come from verified local sources plus clearly separated national discovery resources (such as official government, volunteer, group, or library-directory sites). National resources are never presented as nearby local listings, and the selected mileage radius is never silently expanded.
How we discover options
We combine several kinds of free sources, each clearly labeled: our own curated records of real government, library, parks, education, and nonprofit programs; official RSS, Atom, and ICS calendar feeds we've verified and added to our source registry; and national directories — such as Meetup, Eventbrite, Idealist, AmeriCorps, the National Park Service, PublicLibraries, and USA.gov — that we link to directly rather than scrape or repackage as local listings. Explore does not depend on a paid event-data API.
Add your official calendar or source
Are you a library, parks department, nonprofit, or community organization? If you maintain an official RSS, Atom, or ICS calendar feed, we can add it to our source registry so your programs show up as verified local matches rather than a general link. Email hello@westsidesite.com with a link to your feed or events page, and we'll review it before adding it.
Corrections and removal
If something we've listed is outdated, inaccurate, or you'd like it removed, email hello@westsidesite.com with the listing name and what needs to change. We review and act on these requests manually.
Suggest a source
If you know of a real, official local organization we should consider adding, you can suggest it by emailing hello@westsidesite.com. Suggestions are reviewed manually and are never published automatically.
